A limitation in Android 10 and later prevents apps like Locale from toggling Wi-Fi. To work around this, a separate free “Helper” app was compiled to run in Android 9 backwards compatibility mode.

The Helper must be downloaded from our website, because Google Play won’t allow apps running in backwards compatibility mode. Installing apps from outside of Google Play is called “sideloading.”

  1. Enable sideloading

    1. Open Android Settings

    2. Choose Apps

    3. Expand the “Advanced” section

    4. Choose “Special app access”

    5. Choose “Install unknown apps”

    6. Choose “Google Chrome”

    7. Choose “Allow from this source”

  2. Download the Locale X Helper

    1. From within Google Chrome, follow this link: Download Locale X Helper

    2. After the download completes, tap the Open button

    3. Confirm installation (Note: If you get an error about a conflict, you need to uninstall the old version of the Locale X Wi-Fi Helper first by visiting the Apps section of Android settings)

    4. After installation, return to Locale X
